COVID Safety

The priority is the safety and health of Gantry View's student, staff, and families. That priority helps shape GVS’s approach to the ongoing Covid situation. Its layers of precautionary measures include:

  • Mask-wearing. Surgical masks on hand for when a student’s mask is ripped or otherwise unsafe.

  • Vaccination required: All staff and students 12+. Only medical exemptions will be considered.

  • Social distancing: 3-6 ft. whenever possible.

  • Ventilated: Continuous intake and cycling of fresh air.

  • Daily online health screen for students and staff upon arrival at (but not entry into) the school.

  • Small learning groups: Students will learn in contained groups as much as possible.

  • Lunch will be eaten outside whenever possible.

  • Regular PCR testing for students and staff.

  • Staggered drop-off and pick-up times.

  • Daily surface cleaning and bathroom cleaning

  • Hand sanitizer and hand washing.

  • No indoor community gatherings.

Gantry View will make its own best decisions. We will pay close attention to whatever emanates from the DOE and NYSED, but we will also diverge from “official policy” if the situation warrants, because proactive response time matters.

GVS will also ask its families to do their part—getting their children tested before the start of school, making sure to provide good/protective masks, avoiding higher-risk situations outside of school hours, and using good judgment when symptoms of illness appear at home. As a community (and not just a school), it is incumbent upon everyone to consider the impact of their behaviors on others.
